About the course
Nuclear energy is one of the means the European utilities must consider to meet future electricity needs. The major European electricity generation companies which form the EUR (European Utility Requirements) organisation, together with the European Commission propose a one-week course aimed at post-graduate students in nuclear engineering and young professionals.
This course is intended to give the participants a broad view of the European legal and market environment, the design requirements foreseen by the electricity producers, the harmonisation work undertaken by the safety regulators, the projects proposed by the vendors and a few research areas in nuclear engineering management at European level. This course is open to anybody who has a minimum scientific background. It is intended to provide first hand information to students and young professionals who are considering a career in NPP R&D, engineering or operation or to young engineers that have already started a career. This will also be a good opportunity to develop contacts between the participants. The speakers are experienced engineers or managers from major European companies (Utilities, Regulators, Vendors and R&D agencies) involved in nuclear generation or support activities.
The course will be organised over four days (June 6th-10th 2005) downtown Helsinki in Finland.
A technical visit to Loviisa NPP will be organised on the fifth day.
